Jared Van Ittersum, D.D.S.

Jared Van Ittersum, D.D.S. has been practicing dentistry for twelve years while simultaneously developing and co-owning the multi-state private D.S.O., Infinity Dental Partners, with his business partner Dr. Elias Achey. Founded on the principal of strategic partnerships, Dr. Van Ittersum built his group by surrounding himself with industry experts to help implement the explosive growth strategies he’s experienced in a post-recession era.

In 2001, Dr. Van Ittersum co-founded a .Com company called Document Imaging Solutions, Inc., and co-developed an enterprise-level document management software solution called DIS-imaging™, and an electronic medical record software suite called EMR-imaging™. With installations in several Fortune 500 companies and government facilities, including Langley Air Force Base, U.S. Naval Command Center, U.S. Federal Marshal’s Service, American Red Cross, Procter & Gamble, and Whirlpool, his company quickly grew to a reseller network of 156 companies.

In 2005, Dr. Van Ittersum led an IT team at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry to collaborate with Apple, Inc. to develop iTunes U©, the international digital education authority now utilized by millions of students worldwide. Dr. Van Ittersum represented both Apple, Inc. and the University of Michigan speaking at a multitude of education forums nationwide and became a part of a think tank team at Apple’s headquarters during the infancy of the App Store development.

His experience with digital learning inspired the creation of Infinity Dental University, a collaborative effort with Dr. Achey to bring 11 years of experience in dental management, leadership and ownership to a scalable, 24/7 online learning institution for the betterment of dental practices. Infinity Dental University encompasses all aspects of running a dental practice from both a group practice perspective and a clinically practicing dentist’s perspective, a rare combination.

Dr. Van Ittersum became a national best-selling co-author on Amazon.com in 2013 with his book, A Cup of Coffee With 12 Leading Dentists in the Nation, by spreading a message that you can receive the benefits of group practice but still maintain your individual practice identity, the secret sauce of his group’s success. His 2nd book, How to Build a Group Practice, documents Infinity Dental’s best protocols, and provides a recipe for success for Small Group Networks and upcoming DSO’s.

Over the past 11 years, he and his business partner Dr. Achey, have figured out the right balance between systems and culture in the dental office to bring a solution the makes dentists a better manager, leader and entrepreneur. Every year, they have hosted and spoke at IDP’s annual motivational summits to their teams and respective doctors. Their vision is to help motivated dentists of all age groups by sharing the good and the bad of their experiences, and giving away the massive value solutions that optimized their practices.

Dr. Van Ittersum is also the co-founder of DDU™, a total team training platform that brings the best practice management systems from Henry Schein’s top dental consultants into a convenient, online digital learning environment.

Since 2018, he and Dr. Achey have been faculty for the Henry Schein Dental Business Institute, teaching upcoming emerging groups the business principals they implemented since 2009 developing their dental group.

Finally, he is a board member of the Advisory Board to the Dean for the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, the #1 ranked dental school in the United States and #2 ranked globally, and the newest board member of the Shils Fund, supporting dental entrepreneurship and philanthropy in oral health.

Elias Achey, D.M.D.

Elias Achey, D.M.D. has been practicing dentistry for thirteen years while co-developing Infinity Dental Partners with his business partner Dr. Jared Van Ittersum. As a leader in the organization, Elias trail blazed the creation of a culture within Infinity Dental Partners emphasizing life transformation to create massive vision for every team member, and a purpose-driven team pioneering total health and wellness for all.

Less than two years into private practice and in the wake of the 2008 recession, Dr. Achey purchased his first two practices and began implementing the group practice protocols that have made Infinity Dental Partners successful. In a time where dentists were closing their doors and patients were putting dental care as a lower priority, his initial group thrived with his leadership.

His 13 years of experience managing 15 practices and 19 associate dentists contributed to management modules he co-created in Infinity Dental University to give dentists the tools necessary for financial freedom and an automated, team-driven practice.

Elias also became a national best-selling co-author on Amazon.com in 2013 with his book, A Cup of Coffee With 12 Leading Dentists in the Nation, by spreading a message that you can receive the benefits of group practice but still maintain your individual practice identity, the secret sauce of his group’s success. His 2nd book, How to Build a Group Practice, documents Infinity Dental’s best protocols, and provides a recipe for success for Small Group Networks and upcoming DSO’s.

Dr. Achey is also the co-founder of a new dental consulting solution sold exclusively through Henry Schein called DDU™, a total team training platform that brings the best practice management systems from Henry Schein’s top dental consultants into a convenient, online digital learning environment.

Since 2018, he and Dr. Van Ittersum have been faculty for the Henry Schein Dental Business Institute, teaching upcoming emerging groups the business principals they implemented since 2009 developing their dental group.

A Transition Consultant’s View of the DSO Marketplace

As the dental industry continues to evolve into primarily a group practice and Dental Support Organization model, what are some of the key issues that many practitioners may face as this trend when making choices in their practice transition plans. Why EBITA is the major valuation method for acquisitions in the corporate world and what key factors influence variations in EBITA multiples will be discussed. We’ll address the dilemma facing many DSO’s as the lack of inventory for larger practices to acquire becomes a reality and the growing challenges many DSO’s face in recruiting new doctors when the original owner retires.
